What the app stores
The shop’s domain and the access token Shopify issues at install. It also stores the settings the merchant enters (GTM container ID, consent choice, product ID format and ad platform IDs), saved in the merchant’s own Shopify store as app data. To improve the app we record, per shop, which setup steps are done, which platforms are connected, and install and last-opened dates.
What the app does not store
No customer or order data reaches OutGainer Tag’s servers. Tracking runs in the shopper’s browser and sends events to the merchant’s own Google Tag Manager container. From there the merchant’s tags send them to the platforms the merchant chooses (for example Google Analytics or Meta). The merchant is the controller of that data.
Consent
By default the app follows the shopper’s choice in Shopify’s cookie banner and passes it to Google Consent Mode v2. Merchants who use their own consent tool manage consent there.
Deletion
Uninstalling deletes the app’s settings and the shop’s access token straight away. Shopify’s shop redaction request, sent 48 hours later, removes anything left. We answer customer data requests by confirming we hold no customer data.
